About the event
Do you want to write your life’s stories but don’t know where to start? Maybe you’ve begun writing but aren’t sure what to do next, or are getting blocked worrying about what your family will think. The class provides kind and practical support for moving forward with your memoir—wherever you are in the writing process. You’ll learn some of the essential tools of creative nonfiction, including making your memories come vividly alive, balancing facts with imagination, and writing about other people. You’ll also generate some new writing and receive supportive feedback. Writers of all levels are welcome!
This class is taught by Rebecca Jamieson, the author of the chapbook The Body of All Things (Finishing Line Press, 2017). Her writing has appeared in Entropy, Mid-American Review, The Offing, Rattle, and elsewhere. She is the winner of the 2024 Tupelo Press Prose Prize and her work has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has been awarded fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center, the Fishtrap Writers’ Conference, and the Spring Creek Project. Rebecca holds an MFA in Writing and Publishing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, and she is the founder of Contemplate Create, where she teaches creative writing with a mindfulness lens. She lives on Ho-Chunk land in Madison, Wisconsin, and when she isn’t writing, she’s cuddling her two cats, hiking, and baking. You can find her at contemplatecreate.com and on Instagram @rebeccabjamieson.
